“Jonathan has been a great help to me this year and I would highly recommend him to others looking for non judgemental and open communication.”
As a therapist serving Hull, Beverley and East Yorkshire, I offer a safe and confidential space to help you navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and improve your overall wellbeing.
Hello and Welcome
A warm welcome…
Hi, I’m Jonathan Wildman. I offer a grounded, down-to-earth space for people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and others.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief that therapy isn’t about labels, it’s about a genuine, human connection between two people. I take the time to explore how you’ve come to see yourself, and the patterns that may be holding you back. My approach is ‘supportively challenging’. I aim to provide a safe, sturdy space where you can talk openly, while also asking the kinds of questions that help you find real clarity and feel more at home in yourself.
I believe everyone deserves to feel understood and to live a life that feels like their own. I provide therapy and counselling in Hull, including Beverley Road, Cottingham, and surrounding areas, as well as online across the UK.

My Experience
Qualified and Experienced Therapist
I bring over 20 years of experience in social care and mental health to my work as a therapist. While my background is deeply academic—including a Master’s in counselling and psychotherapy practice and a PhD exploring the values and ideas that shape the field — I believe the most important part of our work is the genuine, down-to-earth connection we build.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means my work meets high professional standards and is rooted in a clear ethical framework. I draw on my training and my own life experience to offer a space that is both intellectually curious and deeply respectful.
Whether we are exploring complex past experiences or present-day hurdles, I provide a sturdy, jargon-free environment where you can feel heard and understood as an individual.
Fees
My fee is £50 per session (50 mins) online and in-person.
The Process
A Journey to Support Your Mental Health
While everyone’s journey is different and outcomes can’t be guaranteed, the outline below offers a sense of how therapy with me may unfold, shaped by what you bring and at a pace that is right for you.
01
Start with a Free Consultation
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step, so I offer a free, no-pressure 15-minute video or phone consultation. This is an opportunity for us to have an informal chat about your current needs, and for you to see if my approach feels like a good fit. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions you might have and get a sense of what working together could be like.
02
Sessions
I ensure you have a truly safe and confidential space. We work together to explore your unique challenges. I offer a thoughtful, collaborative approach that prioritises understanding and connection. As our work deepens, many people find they gain insight, self-trust and a stronger capacity to navigate life’s difficulties.
03
Outcomes
My aim is to support you in developing a deeper sense of emotional strength. Our work focuses on change that feels sustainable because it grows out of understanding your experience and relationships more fully. Over time, many people find they feel more secure in themselves and more at ease in their connections with others.

Therapy gives you space to understand yourself better, and to explore patterns in your relationships. It can foster greater self-acceptance, curiosity, help to increase self-awareness and thereby bring more choice and greater freedom in how you live. I work in a relational, compassionate and supportively challenging way, providing a space where you can be heard, understood and empowered to find your own way forward.
I work with people facing a wide range of difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, identity struggles, addiction, relationship problems, issues around sexuality, work or study challenges, procrastination and the emotional impact of physical illness.
Therapy brings a lot of benefits, here is a list of just a few of the main ones.
- Ease anxiety, stress and low mood
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- More effective communication
- Healthier coping strategies
- Stronger relationships
- Process trauma, grief and major life events
- Feel less alone and more supported
- Explore your beliefs, values and world-view
- Enhanced creativity and problem-solving
- More able to direct your own life
People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. It’s worth remembering that an event or set of circumstances that may not trouble one person, can be traumatising to another. We’re all different. During therapy I encourage clients to talk about what’s causing them pain or problems, however important or trivial it seems.
There is no pre-determined fixed amount of time to do therapy. Some clients find they get what they need from only a few sessions, whilst others find they want to continue to explore and grow through therapy for months or years. You are free to stop therapy whenever you wish to do so, and continued therapy is through mutual agreement.
Yes there is a dedicated carpark on the site, as well as street parking nearby
Yes, there is ramp access to the building and a lift to the first floor.
This is down to individual need, preference and circumstances. In my experience once a week tends to work well. Weekly sessions tend to be frequent enough for a sense of continuity and depth of work, whilst also allowing enough space between sessions for a client to process what is explored within the sessions.
Cancellations should be made with at least 24 hours notice, otherwise the missed session will be payable in full. Occasionally last minute cancellations due to emergencies and illness are unavoidable for both clients and therapists. Where possible I’ll reschedule the session for the same week.
Generally, everything the client says in a session is confidential. There are rare exceptions to this if I have reason to believe that the client or someone else is at serious risk of harm. I do have monthly supervision with a qualified clinical supervisor to help ensure that I’m working with clients in the best possible way. I do not share details that would make a client identifiable, and the supervisor is bound by the same code of ethics regarding confidentiality.
